Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 254 x 165 cm Description: Tradition has it that the two large portraits of the royal couple were a gracious gift by Maria Theresa to the Benedictine order in Pannonhalma. Depicted standing, in state, the empress and her husband appear in exactly the same pose and costumes and with the same accessories in portraits judged as Meytens’ own creations in Nuremberg’s Germanisches Nationalmuseum; there are minor differences in the moulding of the clothes and small details only. |  |
