Description: Portraitist Balthasar Donner of North Germany earned his extraordinary popularity for his meticulously painted characterizations. His busts of old men and women were much sought after all over Europe - including Vienna - and drew masses of following. In Austria his main disciple was the portraitist Christian Seybold (1697-1768) who adopted Denner’s smooth and minutely detailed mode of presentation; many head studies and portraits are known by him painted in Denner’s manner.
