Created: mid-17th century Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 81 x 80 cm Description: The model wears a black soutane against a dark monochrome background. Among Pázmány’s many foundations, the university of Nagyszombat, the Pazmaneum in Vienna and the Jesuit college of Pozsony - from the library of which the picture (probably the copy of an earlier painting) came - are outstanding. It used to adorn the place above the shelf of the orators. In 1812-1815 the college belonged to the Benedictines, and the picture might have got to Pannonhalma after that. |
