Created: around 1616 Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 49 x 40 cm Description: In the bust of Pázmány portrayed with his most typical features the attire is conspicuous. In 1614 Pázmány asked the general of the Jesuit order to allow him to leave the Society of Jesus and join the Carthusian order because of the attacks at his person. Two years later, he asked for exemption so that he could live as a priest. He availed himself of the permission to choose a new order in April 1616, joining the Somasca order upon the pope’s request. He wears the habit of this order in the picture, starting his novitiate with the guidance of the nuncio of Prague. His membership in the new order presumably accelerated his appointment to the archiepiscopacy of Esztergom in September of the same year. | |
