Created: c. 1500 Material, technology: limewood, tempera Size: 114.5 x 99.5 cm Description: Nearly the entire picture surface is filled by the two characters of the scene: Mary kneeling before the book-stool and the archangel Gabriel hovering behind her. The picture is interlaced with inscriptions abounding in misshaped or unintelligible characters - by the probably illiterate painter. Originally made for a winged altarpiece, the panel is the product of a South German workshop, maybe in Ulm. | |
