The artist, signed as Marie, can be identified as the French paintress Marie Louise Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, who was showered with commissions by Marie Antoinette, empress Catherine II, czar Paul I, the courts of princes in Naples and Berlin, aristocrats of Austria, Poland, Russia. |  |
