Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 41 x 22.7 cm Description: The sketch was attributed to Franz Anton Maulbertsch for a long time. The style and the moulding of the figures and faces are, however, more closely related to the works of István Schaller active in Transdanubia, rather than the Austrian master or his school. The lobed heading suggests it was a sketch of an altarpiece, but no more is known of its function. It is thus difficult to attribute it precisely; it is not known for sure whether the two sketches, the "Visitation" and the "Vision of St Francis" belonged together in one project originally or not. | |
