Fragment of a sculpture

Created: 12th century

Material, technology: limestone 39.5 x 30 x 16.5 cm

Description: This roughly executed fragment shows the upper part of a human figure, nearly two-thirds life-size. A hatchet was used to fashion the back into a vertical position. The two shoulders and the two sides of the head are free-standing. The protruding parts of the face have been completely broken off. The figure appears naked. His right hand is placed on his breast, while his left hand is raised to his face. The formation of the shoulders and hands recall to a certain extent a fragment of a figure from Szekszárd and an analogous figure from the large capital of Dömös. The hair and ears, however, are different.
