Description: The Latin excerpt from the Gospel (Lk 10, 38-42) at the bottom of the picture narrates Christ’s visit to the house of Mary and Martha. It is not settled on what commission the picture was made and where it was to be. The theme suggests that it was related to a church institution, maybe a monastery or its refectory. The kitchen scene in "Christ in the house of Mary and Martha" often adorned the monastic refectories together with other dinner scenes taken from the Bible.
