Created: Vienna, 1901 Material, technology: copper engraving Size: 210 x 150 mm Description: By having the portals of the crypt rebuilt in Romanesque style during the heyday of the Baroque, Archabbot Egyed Karner was making it unmistakably clear that he wished to base the revival of monastic life upon the spiritual traditions which evolved in the Middle Ages. As part of this plan, he had the 700th anniversary of his monastery celebrated with splendid pageantry and commemorated by a medal and two memorial engravings by the noted masters of Vienna, Johann Andreas Pfeffell, Christian Engelbrecht, and Franz Anton Moser. The copperplates with emblems also feature the compositions found on the both sides of the commemorative medal. | |
