Created: 1803 Material, technology: paper, coloured ink Size: 42.3 x 25.9 cm Description: Given the similarities, there is no doubt that Frater János, whose name is preserved forever in the signature, copied the second, approved plan by Andrea Adami for the Altar of the Holy Cross. Nothing is known about the so-called Frater János, although he was probably a Benedictine lay brother. Nor do we know why he was selected to draw the plan. Perhaps simply a sketch of the altar of the Virgin in the style of Adami was requested, or perhaps this drawing was to be the basis for a commission for a new altar. | |
