Created: 1500 Material, technology: letterhead impression Size: 14 x 10 mm Description: This extended octagonal stamp displays a composition of armorial bearings and lacks a legend. Below, a creature with the head of a horse and the tail of a fish (hippocampus) turning to the proper right can be seen in the shield with its gently curving sides. Above is a mitre with a ribbon. The arms bending above the infula are holding an open crown. The two heraldic elements - the mytholigical animal and the hands holding the crown - appear seperately on two other works connected with the archabbot. The seal is evidence that the monastic superiors were also fond of the fashionable trend from the end of the 15th century among humanists of imitating antiquity. |
