The Pannonhalma Evangelistarium (Forgách Codex)

Created: 1511

Description: This is the only medieval codex known to have been in the possession of Pannonhalma even before the suppression of the order by Joseph II. Its first section, written in 1511, contains the parts of the Gospel prescribed for church feasts. The scribe of the second part, Thomas Losonci Forgách, also known as Frater Paul, summarised the blessings and the profession ceremony in 1515-16. At the bottom of the first page the two patron saints, Matthew and Martin, are shown as part of the marginalia of the Renaissance codex along with the coat-of-arms of Máté Tolnai.
