Detail of a cornice

Created: 1220-1230

Material, technology: limestone

Size: h.: 27 cm, l.: 38 cm, w.: 35 cm

Description: The entire length and height of this cornice element have survived. There are two wide, grooved leaves with broken ends that once ended in buds. This element is probably from the main cornice of the nave. Its size and type match with two other cornice fragments, one of which was found amidst the rubble from the vaulting of the southern side-aisle. The style of its ornamentation suggests it is related to the carved work from the eastern part of the church, bearing witness to the partial continuity of the stone-carvers’ composition during the course of construction, despite changes in plans and designers.
