Created: Hungarian, first half or middle of the nineteenth century Material, technology: raised embroider using metallic strands on white moire decorated with silver Description: The cross is sewn using relief-like raised embroidery, with a depiction of a Gothic tabernacle along the short, horizontal stem. At the centre under a canopy stands Mary with the baby Jesus. She is flanked by two kneeling angels in green dress. All three figures are woven tapestry-style with colourful silk. The angels wings are embroidered with round spangles and cantilles. The gold embroidered outline of the cross is adorned with green and red glass stones and spangles. The cross and the chasuble are laced with 2.5-cm-wide gold-coloured braided trim made with metallic strands. The same detail of a Gothic window as is found on the vertical stem of the cross on the back is embroidered onto the violin-shaped front. The chasuble is lined with yellow cotton fabric in satin weave. |
