Created: 18th century Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 65 x 48 cm Description: The composition and some details are identical with Rembrandt’s copperplate of the same theme made in 1633 and is the mirror image of the master’s painting of the same year, preserved in Munich now. Apparently, the main aim of the unknown painter was to capture the light effects and colour harmonies so typical of Rembrandt, and he paid little attention to the rendering of the subtle details in the etching. Though the painter of the Pannonhalma picture is not known by name, his work is certainly one of the good 18th century Rembrandt copies. | |
