Created: 18th century Material, technology: copper gilt, silver Size: h.: 28.5 cm Description: This reliquary, in the shape of a monstrance, has a lobed base and vase-shaped, cast node decorated with flower garlands. The frame of the relic case is decorated with red stones and a broken-edged, gilt crown of rays. The back of the reliquary is smooth, while the front is decorated with a shell-patterned, cast appliqué. This reliquary of modest craftsmanship, relying on the general formal vocabulary of Baroque metal-smithery is significant as evidence of the veneration of St Martin in 18th-cenutry monastic history. It may have been originally located on the 18th-century main altar of the church at Pannonhalma. | |
