Reliquary of the True Cross

Material, technology: silver gilt and bronze

Size: h.: 54.5 cm, diam. of base: 22.5 cm

Description: The concave, voluted base, which has a triangular, concave foot, is decorated with foliage. On the base stands a cast, sculpturesque figure of an angel holding a Latin cross, with golden rays extending from a bundle of leaves. The ends of the cross stems are adorned with repoussé, chased angel heads in a rococo frame. The compartment of the reliquary, decorated with a double cross framed in leaves, is attached at the intersection of the stems. Behind polished glass sewn to a silk base and framed with embroidery is the relic of the Holy Cross with a small silk dog figure at its base.
