Created: 1482, restored foot: latter half of the 19th century Material, technology: silver gilt, with repoussé, cast, reticulated, engraved decoration, embedded and filigree enamel Size: h.: 26.2 cm Description: The wide-edged foot of the Gothic chalice has six lobes; each decorated with filigree enamel of green, red, and white foliage on a light-blue background. Repoussé, ribbed leaves adorn the flattened, apple-shaped node. The square nobs that protrude from the spokes of the node bear the digits of the year 1482 on a background of embedded blue enamel. Between the knobs are the cast figures of the Madonna and Man of Sorrows. The cup is covered in a rich, green and pink floriated enamel filigree. The archabbot Krizosztom Kruesz (1865-1885) had the Anders company of Vienna restored the foot in the second half of the 19th century. The enamel ornament on the cup was restored later. | |
