Created: around 1748 Material, technology: gilded and painted limewood Size: h.: 90 cm Description: The ecstatic saint sitting on clouds originally belonged to a larger composition, but the two angels holding the burning globe are missing. It may be from the high altar or a side altar of the baroque church of Celldömölk. The high altar of the church built in 1744 was replaced by a new one in 1824, renewed again in 1859. In the next years the side altar was also restored. The vision scene may have been the main altarpiece replacing a picture, but the size suggests that it was in the crowning superstructure. The sensitively carved face and hand allude to the involvement of a sculptor of prominent qualities. | |
