The iconographic type of the king shown in the costume of Hungarian noblemen spread from the 17th century. St Stephen’s figure appeared on the altars of both parish and monastic churches, mostly in the company of king St Ladislas or prince St Emeric, as accompanying figures to the Virgin’s altarpieces. It is the work of a Hungarian master of average quality. |
