Putto with trumpet

Created: Venice, 17th century

Material, technology: bronze, with light brown patina

Size: h.: 32 cm

Description: Few biographical data are known of Roccatagliata who moved from Genoa to Venice. It is known that in 1593 he completed bronze statues of St Stephen protomartyr and St George for San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. With his master Cesare Groppo he made two large candelabra in 1598 for the same church. On the basis of the sure attributions to Roccatagliata other works can also be associated with him. His sculptures excelled in the subtle modelling of light and shade. This statuette is a comparatively modest creation of the workshop.
