Created: first half of 16th century Material, technology: embossed pigskin Size: 57.5 x 49.5 cm Description: The sharp and precise carving of the marble variants of the composition help to make out the badly blurred forms. The series of reliefs produced by multiplication were usually made after models, mostly marble reliefs, of prominent masters, for commercial purpose. With the help of a matrix made after the stone, plaster, cartapesta or leather copies were made. The prototype of this leather relief is certainly the Florentine sculptor Antonio Rosellino’s work surviving in several marble variants. | |
