Description: According to tradition the statue of a sitting St Placid was located on the altar of St Benedict in the chapel of St Benedict. St Placid was a Benedictine monk and a pupil of St Benedict. He is generally depicted with staff and book. The quite expressive, ascetic face carved with strong lines; the contemplative, wide eyes; and the generously and loosely arranged folds of the sitting figure attest to the collabrorative efforts of a highly skilled sculptor.
