St Placid was a Benedictine monk and a pupil of St Benedict. He is generally depicted with staff and book. The quite expressive, ascetic face carved with strong lines; the contemplative, wide eyes; and the generously and loosely arranged folds of the sitting figure attest to the collabrorative efforts of a highly skilled sculptor. | |
