Created: ca. 1750 Material, technology: linden, originally coloured with chalk. The arms, legs and wings are missing Size: h.: 115 cm Description: This angel, originally hovering, probably came from the Baroque main altar of the abbey church. It may have been part of a scene showing the Ascension of Christ. The angel’s head and the formation of its naked body, together with the soft, restrained use of drapery following the contours of the body are characteristic of the work of Viennese sculptor Johann Hosef Resler. One of the archangels from the side altar dedicated to St Michael in the Church of the Trinity in Bratislava and the angels of the altar of the Holy Cross in the Trinity church in Vienna were composed in a similar fashion. | |
