Created: 1878 Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 66.5 x 55.5 cm Description: The Benedictine Gergely Czuczor (1800-1866) was a poet and member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He taught at Pannonhalma and Komárom and worked as a clerk of the Academy in Pest. His poem "Alarm" was published in 1848 in Kossuth’s paper. After the crushing of the war of independence he was imprisoned for it. The bust shows him with greying hair, in a braided coat. The background is grey monochrome. The painter, Károly Jakobey who studied in Vienna and Pest mostly painted portraits and altarpieces. This picture was made after the model’s death. | |
