Created: 2nd century AD Material, technology: limestone Size: h: 74,2 cm, l: 61,5 cm, w: 19-20 cm Description: This fragment comes from the upper left corner of the inscribed plaque of a Roman sepulchral structure. A pilaster frames the left side of the inscription field on this fragment, while the upper edge above the inscription is straight. A dowel hole filled with lead is located on the upper left edge of the stone, suggesting that the plaque was placed in the centre of the façade of a sepulchral structure assembled from several different parts. The first line of the inscription gives the name of the deceased, who was more than forty years old at the time. Probably her husband, L. Attius, a legion veteran, had the sepulchral monument made. The family name of Attius appears on other inscriptions from Pannonhalma. | |
