Created: second half of 17th century Material, technology: wood, tempera Size: 31.8 x 51 cm Description: Christ blesses with his right pointing aside while he holds an open book in his left with a citation from the Gospel in Greek: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (Jn 8,12) The icon is a rare specimen of asymmetrical Deesis representations. Next to the Virgin St Cyril of Alexandria is standing. The names are given in red at the heads on the background. On the basis of the stylistic features, the throne adorned with acanthus leaves and the script the icon can be attributed to the Cretan school, latter half of the 17th century. | |
