Material, technology: oil, canvas Size: 86.5 x 56.5 cm Description: Daniel Gran depicted a scene from the life of St Nicholas for the altar of Vienna’s Schwarzspanierkirche in 1736: the saintly bishop seizes the child Adeodatus from the table of the Agarane king to take him back to his parents. The picture has been in the Minorite church in Vienna since 1786. Many copies and diminished sketches have survived. The present picture is the reformulation by a Hungarian painter deviating widely from the altarpiece. Neither the master nor the exact date of making is known. |  |
