Created: 17th century Material, technology: oil, pinewood Size: 52 x 42.3 cm Description: Madonna holding the lively naked Bambino in front of a green curtain preserves a perished or latent work of Bernardino Campi (1522-1591) of Cremona. Poorly equipped with talent, the probably self-taught painter of the Virgin appears to have taken a detail of a larger composition for his model. The direction of the Infant’s head movement and glance was obviously justified by the presence of a saint or donator in the prototype. |
