Created: Venice, around 1500 Material, technology: oil, poplar Size: 54.2 x 40.2 cm Description: As the picture is badly damaged, it is hard to judge its quality or its authorship. One thing is certain: its composition is closely connected to a Giovanni Bellini Madonna now in New York’s Metropolitan Museum. "The Virgin worshipping her sleeping child" was a popular iconographic type in Venice, and it was presumably the theme of this work from Bellini’s workshop or from a follower of the master, too. | |
